Timberline & Gertrude Lake Trail #12
Timberline Trail (# 12) is 4.5 miles long. The trail leads to 2 lakes (Timberline and Gertrude) below Silver Run Peak (the 6th tallest in Montana). Both lakes are in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and offer excellent trout fishing. The hike begins in an area that was burned in 2008’s Cascade Fire. However, after 3 miles, the trail returns to a forested landscape. Elevation change: 1800 feet. The trail is open for the following uses: hiking, horseback riding. 4 Miles each way with the Lake being at 9660 Elevation.
This hike is considered a moderate hike but it does have about 2000 foot elevation gain. The rewards are two stunning lakes, waterfalls, creeks, and good fishing.
*Please be aware that travelling in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness comes with additional regulations. Please know what is expected of visitors before entering the wilderness.
