Montana Grizzly Encounter
The Montana Grizzly Encounter provides a unique opportunity for visitors to observe grizzly bears up close while promoting conservation and bear awareness. It serves as an important educational resource for residents and visitors alike, helping to foster a greater understanding and appreciation for these magnificent animals and the wild places they inhabit.
Located halfway between Bozeman and Livingston, Montana on the Bozeman Pass.
Rescued Grizzly Bears: The sanctuary is home to several grizzly bears that have been rescued from various situations, such as being orphaned as cubs or confiscated from improper captivity. These bears cannot be released into the wild due to their dependency on humans or their inability to survive in the wild.
Educational Programs: The Montana Grizzly Encounter aims to educate visitors about grizzly bears and their role in the ecosystem. Through guided tours, interpretive signs, and educational presentations, visitors can learn about bear biology, behavior, habitat, and conservation efforts.
Naturalistic Habitat: The sanctuary provides a spacious and naturalistic habitat for the bears, featuring grassy meadows, trees, pools, and other enriching features. Visitors can observe the bears engaging in natural behaviors such as foraging, playing, and swimming.
Bear Safety Information: The Montana Grizzly Encounter also emphasizes the importance of bear safety and responsible behavior in bear country. Visitors can learn about ways to prevent conflicts with bears, how to properly store food and garbage in bear-resistant containers, and what to do in the event of a bear encounter.
Visitor Amenities: The sanctuary offers amenities such as picnic areas, gift shops, and educational exhibits. Guided tours are available throughout the day, allowing visitors to interact with knowledgeable staff and ask questions about the bears and their care.
