Big Timber is a charming small town in south-central Montana bordered by the Yellowstone and Boulder Rivers. Named Big Timber by Lewis & Clark for the big Cottonwood trees found here.
Big Timber is known for a couple of things – It is where the Horse Whisperer movie was filmed and most recently for its weekly rodeo. Yes, every Wednesday, during the summer, head on over to the rodeo grounds and enjoy this family-friendly event! Concessions, spirits, local vendors, and of course, cowboys and cowgirls. Local and champion rodeo riders alike compete in this rodeo.
Not only will you find one of the best small-town rodeos, but you will enjoy blue-ribbon fly fishing, camping, and hiking in the majestic Crazy Mountains.
