Trout On The Fly Outfitters
Trout On The Fly Outfitters guide on the waters in southwest Montana. Nate Stevane, licensed outfitter #8533, originally from Billings, Montana is the owner. I have had the pleasure to know Nate for more than 20 years. He actually worked for my husband for several years before he went off to realize his passion for fishing. Nate is extremely competent, personable, organized and, above all, a really great fisherman. It is no surprise that Nate has become the premier fly fishing outfitter in southwest Montana!
Nate instinctively knows how important it is to take the time to teach people the skills they need to get the most out of their fly fishing experience while making memories that last a lifetime.
Trout On The Fly does not have a “brick & mortar” store. Their business is on the rivers and lakes in southwest Montana. They don’t stock rods, reels, waders and such to resell to you, they fish, they guide you to the waters that will fulfill your expectations of a fishing trip in Montana. Not having a storefront allows Trout On The Fly to include all tackle in their guide trips at no extra charge. They also believe charging extra for flies is a distraction on how you fish. They want you to fish, to catch fish, and to completely enjoy your time on the water.
Trout On The Fly has several lodging options for anglers including vacation rentals for small or large groups that enjoy the convenience of cooking their own meals and more space. They will give you great recommendations for hotels depending on where you will be fishing, inclusive packages, or camping suggestions if traveling with a camper or RV. Guides representing Trout On The Fly on the water will pick you up at your lodging location or meet you at a location convenient for you and them. Fishing trips are tailored to each angler’s needs, time of year for the trip, river conditions, and hatches.
Trout On The Fly has about 30 guides on their roster. With that said most, if not all, guides in Montana are not employees of outfitters. They are licensed independent contractors that own their own boats, rods, gear and carry their own liability insurance. They are able to work for whomever they accept work from based on their availability. As an outfitter and guide for the past 20+ years Nate has great relationships with all the guides he uses and he knows exactly which guide is best for what water. The guides listed on Trout On The Fly website are guides they use more often than others. They do have several other independent guides that are used often but are not shown on their site. Their guides live in Bozeman, Ennis, West Yellowstone, Livingston, Helena, Cascade, Butte, Cameron, and Missoula Montana. In other words, Nate will put you with a guide that meets your needs and the waters you want to fish.
